Interseg 2010 and IACP Conference bring together law enforcement authorities from all over Brazil The event presented discussion panels and exhibited the latest technologies to the industry On June 13 to 15, the 10th edition of Interseg - International Trade Fair of Technology, Services and Products for Public Safety, brought together, at Centrosul, in Florianópolis, over 100 exhibitors. For the first time the event was held in Santa Catarina. It is recognized as the main event in South America because it receives national and international representatives, in addition to major law enforcement authorities. This year, 19 Public Security Secretaries, 27 Military Police Commanders, 26 Federal Police Superintendents, Federal Police Directors, Federal Highway Police Superintendents, Civil Chiefs of Police and Fire Brigade Commanders attended the event. Interseg is a roaming event, and it has been staged in eight Brazilian cities, under a concerted effort with the Security Departments of each State. During the opening ceremony, the governor of Santa Catarina, Leonel Pavan, stressed out the importance of developing law enforcement projects in his state. “We are pleased to host an event like Interseg, which allows discussing people’s life, well-being, and wellness. In the capacity of public managers, we wish to let projects come to fruition and benefit society. I am sure that Interseg will always remain in the history of Santa Catarina”, he said. The event also included lectures on important themes during the 8th IACP South American Executive Policing Conference. Information Technology, law enforcement education in academies, intelligence actions for large events and effective combat practices for urban criminality were some subjects discussed. IACP brought reputable officials to Santa Catarina, such as Ricardo Balestreri, National Public Security Secretary, Luiz Fernando Corrêa, Director General of the Federal Police, Geovaldri Maciel Laitartt, Intelligence Coordinator of SENASP (Brazilian Office of Public Security), Dr. Rosangela Monteiro, forensics expert who worked in the Nardoni Case, Lieutenant Colonel Eduardo Jany, Coordinator of Operations for the SOCCENT (Special Operations Command Central) and assistant chief of police for the state of Washington (EUA), and Captain Joe Robinson, supervisor for the SWAT Team, Orlando (EUA). The authorities attending the event got familiar with software applications that integrate the corporations, easily-assembled porches with metal detectors, boots with chips for strategic actions and an “intelligent police car” with latest generation equipment”, Arthur Repsold said, President of Fagga | GL events, promoter of the event. “Interseg 2010 was very profitable for Rontan. Our stand received over 120 daily visits of qualified people, which included Police Directors, Law Enforcement Secretaries, Commanders, and others”, André Ceresa, Rontan Director said. “This year, the visitors were highly qualified. Renowned law enforcement authorities and professionals attended to event to have access to our products, which enabled us to get closer to the target audience we intended to reach”, Robson Moraes Andrade, Black Bee Director says. For Ronaldo Vieira Teles, Volkswagen Regional Sales Director, the number of visitors was also a great achievement, “We had over 500 visits of law enforcement authorities, including from other states like Pará, Paraná, Distrito Federal, Amapá, Amazonas. The event launched the diesel-powered Amarok, a new concept of police car with a robust design, which soon will be available across Brazil”. Engesig showcased a four-wheeled vehicle equipped with several accessories, which called visitors’ attention. “In the 10th edition of Interseg, all our expectations of making good contacts for future businesses were met”, Director Mauro Marques do Rosário said. The Direct Sales Director of Agora Telecom emphasized the qualification of visitors, “decision-makers visited our stand during Interseg. This year, we prepared a 100-m2 police training simulator to screen films with real situations to train police decisions taken on a daily basis”. Celebrating the execution of an agreement sealed with the government of Maranhão for the delivery of a helicopter, during Interseg 2010, Mauro Ayres, Helibras’ Governmental Market Manager says “Interseg has been growing every year in terms of organization and generation of business, overcoming our expectations. Accordingly, the event is reaching a solid position as one of the largest Brazilian exhibits, as security is a theme discussed from various standpoints”. “For Berkana, this edition in Florianópolis was great. We contacted visitors who we would hardly meet in other opportunities. This is why we met our expectations as exhibitors”, Account Manager Tiago Teixeira says. Jorge Velloso, Executive Vice President of Taurus says “Interseg brought the right people to expand our contacts in the field of public security. Reputable authorities came to our stand. This includes the Governor of Santa Catarina, the National Public Security Secretary, the Director General of the Federal Police, the Federal Highway Police Director and the Security Secretary of Rio Grande do Sul”. The visitors also included Colonel João Teixeira de Oliveira, from the Military Police of Pará, who said “Interseg was an interesting event for all law enforcement stakeholders, because it brought brand new solutions to this field. Exhibitors brought first-hand technologies to be used by the law enforcement market. I found everything I was looking for, as there were many different pieces of equipment being offered”.
